ABS-CBN Publishing, Lopez installed his trusted aide, Jose Ramon “Monchet” Olives, on top of the glossy but marginally profitable magazine empire, with ABS-CBN Publishing president Ernesto Lopez, despite being Gabby’s brother, now reporting to him.One immediate casualty of the Olives appointment is Thelma San Juan, the creative general manager who was responsible for building the two-magazine, P30-million-a-year stable seven years ago into a 15-title empire now churning P400 million in revenues a year.
BUT UNDER OLIVES the magazine became a great FLOP especially Metro Society were reports of drug abuse abound!
• Meanwhile, Paolo Pineda has been appointed as head of the ABS-CBN Business Development and Connie Nolasco Lopez as ABS-CBN Interactive Managing Director. However, there’s no truth to the rumor that Monchet Olives was fired by ABS-CBN boss Gabby Lopez. “He’s on sabbatical,” said ABS-CBN PR man Bong Osorio. “When he returns, he will relinquish his position as head of the Cable Channels and take on a new job.”
