Couple, son stabbed dead in Makati apartment

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the killers of a businessman and his family in their apartment unit in Makati City.

The bodies of the victims were discovered at around 10:30 a.m. Monday at Unit 402, Guijo Apartelle, 7623 Guijo St. in San Antonio Village.

Makati police chief, Supt. Cedrick Train, confirmed the killings although authorities refused to release the victims’ names.

A source, however, identified them as businessman Ariel Eguid, 43; his wife Pilar, 50, a chef; and their son, Adrian, 16.

The family owned the nearby Breadbox Restaurant, a small bar.

A source told the Inquirer that the three were stabbed dead sometime on Sunday by two men believed to be working at their restaurant.

The police, however, said they have yet to determine the motive for the massacre.

The bodies were found only on Monday after the apartment building’s caretakers wondered why the family had not yet come out of their unit.

The source said the family’s apartment was found to be in complete disarray.

Although the Makati police remain to be the lead investigator, the National Bureau of Investigation is also assisting in the case upon the order of Ruel Lasala, NBI deputy director for intelligence services.

The massacre shocked the family’s relatives and friends who knew them as gracious hosts to customers who frequented their piano bar.

The couple was often seen tending the bar while their only child played the piano for customers.
